An accident which involved the death of a three-year old girl took place on Saturday, 5th January 2019 in Sector-16B. Ikra, a three year old resident was crushed to death under an e-rickshaw that was allegedly trying to avoid a dug-up portion of a service lane in Sector-16,Dwarka on Saturday afternoon. Police officers said that their probe was yet to ascertain the exact role the dug up portion of road caused in the mishap.
On interrogating the local residents, it was found out that many mishappenings occurred in the past few weeks including a car and a motorcycle. It was also found that hundreds of meters of road had been dug up for about four months now which risks the lives of motorists and residents.
The victim, Ikra, was staying with her relatives and stepped out to buy household items on the day of accident at around 3 p.m. on Saturday and while returning back, she noticed other children playing and stopped. Eyewitnesses reported that they later saw an e-rickshaw climb up on a heap of mud dug out and toppling over on Ikra. Her uncle Mushtaq said, “She was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and declared brought dead. The two passengers escaped with minor injuries.” The driver of the e-rickshaw was nabbed by locals at the spot.
Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police , said that the e-rickshaw overturned after its driver applied brakes to avoid running over the girl. The officer identified the e-rickshaw driver as 23-year-old Ankit and said he was arrested and a case of causing death due to negligence registered against him at Dwarka (North) Police Station.
